What’s so great about turning 47?

Saturday was my birthday. It was a good one. Here’s why turning 47 wasn’t such a big deal.

1. I got carded last week for the first time in months. I wanted to reach over the counter and kiss the guy – until he also checked to see if the $10 I gave him was counterfeit. Okay, so he’s just a rules guy. It counts.
2. I’m still the baby of the family. All of my siblings called. And one tried to warn me of all the things that will go down hill this year. Fortunately, she’s too old to remember what those things were that I should watch out for in the coming days.
3. My coach had me down for some cross-training this week. So I went kayaking for the first time in my life. I had a blast with Kristen – nothing like girl talk and exploring jellyfish. And I’m sure there are still plenty of firsts to try throughout the rest of my life.
4. I went to a barbecue hosted by a triathlete. Spent the night (liquid) carbo-loading for no particular race and hearing about everyone else’s recent races, travels and adventures.
5. My Ironman scale still thinks I’m 18. (Shhhh, don’t tell.)
6. I still have three more years to become one of those annoyingly fit, fast, fifty year olds.
7. 734’s Dad can tell I’m fitter than I was a year ago.
8. 734’s Dad likes dating an older woman.
9. I still have time to run a marathon in 47 other states.
10. I have my health, my family, my friends, my blogger friends, and triathlon, a hobby to keep me feeling challenged and alive.
