Do jelly beans and Reese’s count? Operation Easter Basket was a huge success. Suffice it to say, we had our fair share of candy while working overtime to make sure all the baskets were amply stocked with hygiene items, school supplies, clothing, books, games, toys and candy. And then wrapped with care.
The Long Beach area really pulled together to bring needy children joy on this special holiday.
Kudos go to my cool friend, April, who opened her home as a drop-off location and staging area for 15 different social service agencies to pick up the goods. Her family’s garage, entryway, living room, and dining room were filled to the brim four times. I think tiptoeing through this sea of cellophane-wrapped baskets will remain one of my happiest memories.
On Easter morning, 1,260 children of all ages received their baskets. More importantly, they received the message that they matter.
