Fe-lady and I finished the Ironman California 70.3 on Saturday for Team Operation Rebound. Though we weren't the fastest racers out there, apparently we were some of the most entertaining ones for the Ironmanlive.com photographer. Here we were dancing to the Rolling Stones, trying to work off the nervous energy and warm up a couple of minutes before we entered the water. My dad lives 3000 miles away, so it was great that he could see me when he logged on to track my progress that morning. I have to say Fe-lady helped calm my jitters the day before too. We met for the first time at the Operation Rebound luncheon on Friday - and it felt like meeting a sister for sure. It was obvious we think so much alike!
I'd especially like to thank Sandy and Nikki for getting up way earlier than normal to cheer me on for the swim and T1. And MountainGirlCali for showing up with her hubby and signs that said "Go 623" and "Work it 623!" on the run - right when I really needed a dose of encouragement. It was great to see some familiar faces out there. And, of course, Coach Beth for preparing me for this huge step up in triathlon distance!
And a big, huge thanks to 734's dad who helped me recover this weekend. Saturday night my body was peeved and didn't want food. He nursed me back to health that night and helped kill the pain of the sore muscles Sunday night with some fine margaritas! Yeah, I was THAT sore. Worse than the Nike Women's Marathon. Getting up felt like I was trying to stick a landing after a very difficult gymnastics dismount. I hobbled. He laughed. 734 just looked worried.
There's still a whole lot to process about this weekend. But here goes the numbers:
I raised $3,405 for Operation Rebound. The team raised $161,000.
