This Week's Top 6-2-3

Okay, I'm going to try to make this my Monday ritual. I'm still getting into gear with the new year. Here we go...

Perspiration:

• Learning front-quadrant swimming to improve my freestyle
• Getting up early (5:30 a.m.) to swim three mornings (trying to keep my New Year's resolution of swimming 4X/week, almost there)
• Biking 30 miles on the Riverbed trail
• Resting my knee after tweaking it doing something very unathletic, watching TV (X-terra U.S. Championships) while sitting on the floor
• Discovering there was no real harm done after a few days of not running
• And making it through my long, slow run of one hour and fifty minutes anyway

Celebration:

• Helping Lynne Cox, best-selling author of Swimming to Antarctica and Grayson, celebrate her 50th birthday
• Watching the Pats beat the Chargers in the AFC playoffs

Inspiration:

• Meeting Lynne Cox in person – what an amazing, down-to-earth woman
• Getting help from Beth Hibbard, my swim instructor extraordinaire and semi-retired professional triathlete
• Reading Core Performance Endurance by Mark Verstegen and Pete Williams
